Clean woodchip for paths, mulch beds, allotments, and play area surfacing. Produced from sustainably sourced local timber at our Gorton yard, free from chemical contaminants. This is landscaping-grade chip — not biomass specification — designed to go on the ground, not into a boiler.

What You Get
Our landscaping woodchip contains wood chips of varying sizes plus some shredded leaf material. It is produced from the same locally sourced virgin timber as our other products. The mix of chip sizes and leaf content is a feature, not a shortcoming — it makes the material better at its job than uniform processed chip.
The chip is free from physical and chemical contaminants. No treated timber, no demolition waste, no imported material.
What It Does
A layer of woodchip on bare soil delivers several practical benefits:
- Suppresses weeds — blocks light to the soil surface, reducing weed germination and growth
- Retains moisture — slows evaporation, meaning less watering in dry spells
- Stabilises soil temperature — insulates roots from heat in summer and frost in winter
- Improves soil fertility — the leaf content breaks down over time, adding organic matter and nutrients
- Rebalances carbon-to-nitrogen ratio — as the chip decomposes, it helps build healthy, well-structured soil
For paths and access routes, woodchip provides a firm, well-drained surface that stays usable in wet weather and looks better than bare mud or gravel.
Uses
Garden Mulch
Spread around shrubs, trees, and perennial beds to suppress weeds and retain moisture. A depth of 50–100mm works well for most garden situations. Top up annually as the chip breaks down.
Paths and Walkways
Lay on compacted ground or over weed membrane for informal garden paths, allotment walkways, and woodland trails. Drains well and is comfortable underfoot.
Allotments and Growing Spaces
Use between beds to keep paths clean and suppress weeds. The leaf content adds organic matter to the soil as it breaks down at the edges.
Play Area Surfacing
Woodchip provides a natural, impact-absorbing surface for play areas. It is widely used in schools, nurseries, parks, and community play spaces as a cost-effective alternative to rubber surfacing.
Community and Commercial Projects
We supply woodchip in bulk to community gardens, allotment groups, schools, housing associations, and landscaping contractors.
Delivery
We deliver across Greater Manchester in two formats:
- Tipped loads — loose chip delivered and tipped where you need it
- Bulk bags — for smaller quantities or where tipping access is limited
For large orders where access is restricted, we can crane material over walls and fences.
Tell us what you need, how much, and where it is going. We will work out the best way to get it to you.
