Community Impact

Every tree we handle feeds back into Greater Manchester.

More Than a Business

TreeStation is an ethically and environmentally minded social enterprise rooted in Greater Manchester. As a community-owned BenCom, our purpose goes beyond providing tree services and wood products. We exist to create local employment, reduce waste, and support the organisations and projects making our part of Manchester a better place to live.

Every tree we fell, every log we split, and every bag of woodchip we deliver feeds back into the community that owns us.

Local Partnerships

We work with organisations across Greater Manchester that share our values:

  • Emerge — We supply woodchip to this food recycling social enterprise, supporting their composting operations.
  • HEAP (Highfield Eco-Allotment Project) — We provide woodchip and materials to HEAP, which works with asylum seekers and ex-offenders through community growing.
  • Unicorn Co-operative Grocery — A supporter of TreeStation since 2012, Unicorn demonstrates what community-owned businesses can achieve when they work together.
  • City of Trees — We support Greater Manchester's tree-planting and woodland creation initiative.
  • Kindling Trust — Working together on sustainable food and land use in the Manchester area.

Training and Education

Our Vaughan Street yard serves as an education site where people can learn best practices in arboriculture, woodland management, and wood processing. We provide training opportunities for staff and the wider community, building skills in an industry where qualified workers are always in demand across Greater Manchester.

Volunteering

We welcome volunteers who want to get hands-on with practical woodland and yard work, or who can contribute specialist skills. Volunteering opportunities include:

Practical Site Work

  • Yard maintenance and wood processing
  • Woodland management tasks
  • Planting and habitat creation

Specialist Skills

  • Design and marketing
  • Community engagement and outreach
  • Website and communications

We are also interested in hearing from people with experience in areas we want to develop, including edible fungi cultivation, joinery, coppicing, woodland creation, and carpentry workshops.

Future Projects

We are always looking for partnerships that extend what TreeStation can do for Greater Manchester. Areas we are actively exploring include:

  • Edible fungi cultivation — using waste timber as a growing substrate
  • Joinery incubator — providing workshop space and support for local woodworkers
  • Coppicing partnerships — working with Urban Coppice and others on sustainable woodland management
  • Woodland creation — contributing to new woodland planting across Greater Manchester
  • Carpentry workshops — teaching practical woodworking skills to the community

Board Volunteers

We are looking for volunteer directors to join our Board. If you have skills in fundraising, forestry, engineering, accountancy, community engagement, or HR and want to help govern a social enterprise that is making a tangible difference in Greater Manchester, we would like to hear from you.
