Before construction can begin, the ground needs to be clear. TreeStation provides vegetation clearance and stump grinding for developers, local authorities, housing associations, and private landowners across Greater Manchester and the North West. We own our equipment, employ our own operators, and process all arisings at our yard -- so you get one contractor, one invoice, and zero waste to landfill.
What Site Clearance Involves
Site clearance means removing all vegetation, trees, stumps, and organic debris from a piece of land so it is ready for the next stage of work. Depending on the site, this can include:
- Felling and removing trees of any size, including those in confined spaces
- Clearing scrub, bramble, and overgrown vegetation
- Grinding stumps below ground level
- Removing hedgerows (subject to ecological survey where required)
- Stripping vegetation from areas to be excavated
- Chipping and removing all arisings from site
Who Needs Site Clearance
- Developers -- preparing brownfield or greenfield plots for residential, commercial, or industrial construction
- Local authorities -- clearing neglected land, derelict sites, or road improvement corridors
- Housing associations -- preparing land for new housing or clearing grounds around existing estates
- Private landowners -- bringing overgrown land back into use
- Utilities and infrastructure companies -- clearing easements and access routes
Our Equipment
We operate our own fleet of heavy plant, so we are not waiting for hire companies or subcontractors:
- Vermeer SC60TX tracked stump grinder -- compact enough for restricted access, powerful enough for large stumps
- Tracked chippers for processing timber and brash on site
- Crane-equipped vehicles for removing large trees in tight spaces
- Timber grab and extraction equipment
Our equipment is also available on a subcontracting basis for other contractors who need additional capacity. See our services for contractors page.
Zero Waste
Every piece of timber, brash, and woodchip that comes off your site is taken back to our yard at Vaughan Street and processed into useful products: kiln-dried firewood, landscaping woodchip, milled planking, and biomass fuel. Nothing goes to landfill. This keeps your disposal costs down and means your project starts with a genuinely clean environmental footprint.
Ecological Considerations
Before clearing any site, we check for ecological constraints: nesting birds, protected species, Tree Preservation Orders, and Conservation Area designations. If a survey is needed before work can proceed, our in-house ecologists can carry it out. This avoids delays from third-party referrals and keeps your programme on track.
See our ecology and invasive weed control page for more detail.
Accreditations
We hold the accreditations that procurement teams and principal contractors require:
- CHAS accredited
- SafeContractor approved
- £5M public liability insurance
- Full risk assessments and method statements provided for every job
