TreeStation offers professional arboricultural consultancy across Greater Manchester and the North West. What sets us apart is that our consultant works directly alongside our tree surgery team, so recommendations turn into action without delay or miscommunication. You deal with one organisation from survey through to completion.
Tree Safety Surveys
If you own or manage land with public access, you have a duty of care under the Occupiers' Liability Acts 1957 and 1984 to manage the risks posed by trees. A tree safety survey provides a systematic, documented assessment of every tree on your site, with clear recommendations for any work required and a prioritised schedule.
We carry out surveys for housing associations, local authorities, schools, churches, estates, and any other organisation responsible for trees on publicly accessible land.
Homebuyer Tree Surveys
Buying a property with large trees nearby? A homebuyer tree survey identifies potential issues before you commit: root damage to foundations, branches overhanging the building, future maintenance costs, subsidence risk on clay soils, and any legal constraints such as Tree Preservation Orders. A straightforward report can save you thousands in unexpected bills.
BS 5837 Surveys for Planning and Development
If you are submitting a planning application for any project that might affect trees -- from a house extension to a large infrastructure scheme -- the local planning authority will almost certainly require a survey to BS 5837:2012 (Trees in Relation to Design, Demolition and Construction).
Our BS 5837 surveys include:
- A full tree survey with species, condition, and value categorisation
- Tree Constraints Plan showing root protection areas and canopy spreads
- Arboricultural Impact Assessment detailing the effect of the proposed development
- Tree Protection Plan with specifications for barrier fencing, ground protection, and construction exclusion zones
- Arboricultural Method Statement for any work within root protection areas
We produce these reports for architects, developers, homeowners, and planning consultants working on projects of all sizes.
Protected Trees: TPOs and Conservation Areas
If a tree on your property is covered by a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) or stands within a Conservation Area, you need consent from the local authority before carrying out any work. We guide you through the application process, prepare the supporting documentation, and carry out the approved work once consent is granted.
Ecological Surveys
We also provide ecology-related surveys including habitat assessments and protected species surveys. For full details, see our ecology and invasive weed control page.
Our Consultant
Our consultancy work is led by our Principal Consultant, who holds professional membership of the Arboricultural Association and has extensive experience in both private and public sector projects. Because our consultant works within the same organisation as our tree surgery and woodland management teams, there is a direct line from assessment to implementation.
